A Mauritian street kitchen
Last weekend i had the pleasure to experience Shelina Permalloo new breakfast menu at her first Mauritian style street kitchen restaurant in Southampton. The 2012 master chef winner was a great host who opened the doors to us for her delicious menu. This kindly organised Bloggers Brunch was with @sotonbloggers. we did a small Q&A with Shelina and it was interesting to learn how herself and her husband started from scratch with The restaurant and pratically designed and decorated the place themselves. Shelina's personality shines through The restaurant with the vibrant decor that bursts with colour, it gives that feeling of being in her home.
Cinnamon toast with tropical fruit and salted caramel sauce.
Shelina has published two cook books since winning Master Chef which were available to purchase on the day of the event.
Ready..steady.. take a photo before it gets cold!
I ordered the cinnamon toast with tropical fruit and salted caramel sauce drizzled on the top. Honestly this was the best toast I have ever tasted! The flavours were sweet and refreshing. We were given two drinks to try from the menu, mango and lime iced tea and the "Alooda", a vanilla and coconut milk drink with basil seeds. The perfect island style refresher.
I love this wall
How do you like your eggs in the morning!?
We were kindly given a goody bag each with a mango and lime chilli sauce, curry powder and some tropical granola. All of these items are made, blended and mixed on the premises in the Lakaz Maman "mamas house" kitchen. So if you would like to pop on down to try the amazing food, head to Lakaz Maman, 22 bedford place, Southampton. Enjoy the food you won't regret it!
